Stamped concrete gives Gonzales patios and walks a stone or plank look in one reinforced slab. Louisiana sun and humidity are hard on color and sealer, so product choice and timing matter. We show patterns and a color sample before quoting.
Stamped concrete is popular around Gonzales for back patios, pool surrounds and the front walk of newer brick homes. It gives a stone, slate or wood-plank look in a single slab. That matters on our clay, where loose pavers tend to rock and open up after a few wet and dry seasons. Underneath, a stamped slab is built exactly like a plain one: compacted base, rebar and joints. The pattern is the last step, not a substitute for structure.
South Louisiana weather is hard on the finish. Humid air and afternoon showers can trap moisture under sealer and turn it milky, so we seal thin and only when the slab is dry. Sun dulls surface color within a few years, which is why we like color mixed through the concrete with a second tone on top. Around pools and steps we add grit to the sealer, because a glossy stamped surface is slick when wet.
A stamp job is timed to the minute in hot weather. The concrete stiffens fast on a July morning, so we pour in sections small enough to texture before it sets, and we start at first light. Joints are cut along pattern lines where possible so they are less visible. Plan to wash and reseal the surface every few years. Skipping that is the usual reason decorative concrete looks tired.
Stamped & decorative concrete in Gonzales: common questions
How long does the color last in Louisiana sun?
Color mixed through the slab is permanent, though it lightens a little. The accent color and the sealer on top wear with sun and foot traffic. A wash and a fresh coat of sealer every few years brings the depth back.
Is stamped concrete slippery around a pool?
It can be if it is sealed glossy with nothing added. We use a textured pattern and mix a grip additive into the sealer for pool decks, steps and slopes. Ask for that in writing on any stamped quote.
Can you stamp over my existing patio?
Only as a thin stamped overlay, and only if the old slab is solid, level and not moving. Cracks that open and close with the clay will come through an overlay. We test the slab before we recommend it.
